Police in Penndel Borough had already issued an arrest warrant for Alexander R. Werts, 39, when he was spotted at an area shopping plaza on Feb. 20, the department said in a release.
He was taken into custody and booked at the Penndel Police Headquarters, authorities said. After some time, Werts allegedly began kicking on the metal cell door and banging his head off the wall, police said.
As a result, police phoned medics to take Werts to a nearby emergency room for evaluation, the department wrote. During the drive over, authorities claimed the 39-year-old "became so irate" with police and medical personnel that he had to be restrained to the stretcher.
In the emergency room, "Werts continued his tirade," police said. Officers claim he attacked doctors and nurses alike and destroyed medical equipment nearby.
He was arraigned from the hospital via video call before a Bucks County judge, police said. He was remanded to jail and will remain there until his next hearing for the original charges on March 22, court records show.
